The reason for its current popularity is not hard to find - it is an utterly beautiful and tranquil spot on a bluff overlooking the narrows connecting Lake Alexandrina to the Goolwa stretch of the River Murray - the start of the place where the river finally gets to meet the sea.
I have included two shots of the Ramsar-listed Clayton wetlands to give viewers a taste of their beauty. The first shot was taken in 2005 when weather conditions were fairly normal. The second shot was taken in 2009 after three years of drought.
The other shot is the Uniting Church at a nearby locality called Finniss which was once a railway siding. Finniss was named for a man who was prominent in public service in South Australia in the early years of the colony - indeed he steered the Constitution Act through Parliament in 1856. But modern Finniss consists only a few houses, a nursery and a couple of old public buildings.
