Cowell seems to be a mixture of tourist town and service town for its local agricultural area.It dates from 1880. There are some quite respectable old cottages and villas in the town, some of which are being renovated to cater for the tourist population. The location nearby of the ferry terminal to Wallaroo is no doubt helping this development.
