Gladstone - Mid North Region, South Australia.
Glastone was named for the well-known British Liberal Prime Minister. It was once a significant regional hub. For many years it was best known for its gaol, which closed in 1975 and is nowadays a tourist venue, function centre and accommodation provider. Find out what it's like to spend a night in the cells!
The town boasts Australia's largest inland grain storage facility. I have the impression that some of the substantial old buildings in this town no longer exist or are in a poor state of repair eg the railway station.
