Kingston - South East Region, South Australia.

Surveyor, architect, engineer, mining magnate and Irishman George Strickland Kingston is said to have started this town in 1858. Three other settlements were also started in the vicinity over the years, with all four merging to form modern Kingston. Today it is a major fishing and lobster port as well as something of a tourist destination and convenient resting place for travellers along Highway 1 to Mount Gambier. It lacks the allure of nearby Robe. However I have always thought it a clean, tidy, well-laid-out town, with an excellent waterfront and beautiful beaches.
