The naming of Melrose has long been controversial but the town is undoubtedly one of the oldest in South Australia, dating from at least 1853.The town was laid out by a mining company. Today it is a favourite stopping point on the road to the Flinders Ranges as well as a base camp for visitors to the beautiful Mt Remarkable National Park.
