Yongala - Upper North Region, South Australia.

When I first arrived in Yongala, I thought it was a ghost town. But no, the pub is still active, along with a few inhabited dwellings, tucked away from the main street. I have the impression that some of the local farmers have opted to make their homes around the town.

This Government town was laid out in 1876. It is on the main road to the much larger town of Peterborough, and the Trans-Continental Indian-Pacific railway still passes through it.

Yongala is well-known in South Australia for having the State's lowest recorded temperature of -8 degrees Celsius, thanks to the local topography.
